“Our HR Manager, Carole, has a warm, engaging personality and is someone who genuinely cares about people. Far too many HR Managers think of themselves as separate from the team and tend to hide behind HR policies.
Carole always puts people before policy and thinks of herself as integral to the team – which of course she is.”

What she does:
I am Virtua’s HR Manager and my role is to create the HR strategy and framework for the organisation as well as undertaking all the traditional HR type duties. I’m a ‘Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personal Development’ (CIPD) and I’ve been working in the field of HR for over 20 years in the manufacturing and engineering sectors.
How she works:
Although I’m fairly new to Virtua, it already feels like I’m part of the team. It’s really exciting to come into a relatively new company where I feel I can make a difference. I get a real buzz from meeting the needs of employees and solving problems through good HR practice.
Who she is:
I have four children, Ben, Jason, April and Rebecca. I love sailing and I’ve sailed in many parts of the world including the Greek Islands and the Caribbean. I have qualified with the Royal Yachting Association after surviving a force nine gale in the Solent. I also enjoy reading crime mystery books and autobiographies.

What he does:
I’m a Senior Telecoms Engineer working on FMC installations and commissioning. I also have some additional responsibilities at Virtua as the Health and Safety Manager. In my role as a systems engineer I get involved in all aspects of projects, particularly the building and testing of systems. I also spend a lot of time working closely with clients at their offices or out in the field. I have experience from O2 2G OMC on the Motorola/Nokia BSS, ARC (NOC) working on a 24/7 shift basis on the H3G launch network, as a Nokia RAN engineer first line support. (Duties include RNC fault finding and general monitoring of Node B, WBTS & WCELs) Also, proactive fault finding on the ATM transmission links at E1 and STM1 level. I am also a Senior NMC SDH Engineer.
How he works:
The thing I enjoy most about working at Virtua, as well as working within a great team of people, is the variety of work I get involved in. Every job is different and interesting and I love that about the job. There is never time to get bored. Sometimes I have to work alone and sometimes as part of a team and I also enjoy that contrast. I originally met a lot of my Virtua colleagues when we worked together at Motorola so it’s like being part of a big family.
Who he is:
I started out as a gas, plumbing and heating engineer and I set up and managed my own central heating company which did a lot of work for the National Trust. I am married to Mary and we both enjoy travelling abroad to immerse ourselves in local cultures. One of my passions is motorcycling and I have gathered a number of trophies over the years including winning the Port Talbot Motor Cycling championship in 1992. Three years ago I motor cycled the amazing Route 66 in America on a Harley. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Who do you most admire?
Rob Brown!
What she does:
I maintain Virtua’s database of staff, contractors, contacts and suppliers and act as a point of contact for everyone. I also issue the Purchase Orders for the contractors.
How she works:
I enjoy working with everyone in the Virtua team and keeping in touch with staff working away from the office on client sites. Virtua is a fun place to work but I also like the hard work ethic and determination elements too. It’s great to be part of such a highly motivated team.
Who she is:
I have a daughter, Sarah, who is getting married next year and I have two dogs – a German pointer and a Giant Schnauzer and also a pet horse! My idea of a perfect day is a summer walk that ends at a pub by a river. My favourite car is anything that goes and I enjoy seafood. Which living person do I most admire? That’s easy… it’s Rob Brown!

“To everyone in the office Jo is the most important person in the team. Jo runs our Accounts section with great efficiency and makes sure that everyone gets paid promptly – both staff and suppliers alike.
In fact most of our suppliers say that because Jo makes sure they always get paid on time it is one of the reasons they so much enjoy working with Virtua.”

What she does:
I undertake all Virtua’s accounting including VAT, Corporation Tax, payroll, P&L and of course paying everyone at the end of the month!
How she works:
After a career in Accounting I took a maternity break and then went back to work where I was put in touch with Virtua. I enjoyed it so much I decided to stay and I’ve now been there for three years. I love the working environment, the people and the flexibility that allows me to both work and spend time with my family.
Who she is:
I’m married to Ricky and we have two sons, Luke and Reese plus three cats. We enjoy sunny beach based holidays and like going to Spain. I’m proud to have completed some charity runs for breast cancer and I draw inspiration from my Grandmother who successfully raised eleven children! My favourite car would be anything driven by a personal chauffeur!

What he does:
I’m a database developer with overall responsibility for making sure the corporate database works effectively. I’ve built it from scratch as well as maintaining a number of spreadsheets as well. My background is in database development for SME’s and I’ve been building Virtua’s database since January.
How he works:
I’ve been working for Virtua since 2009 and as the complexity of the business has increased I’ve been busy making sure the team have the database tools to keep pace. I really enjoy working with such a great bunch of people in a lovely office and in a great working atmosphere. I enjoy problem solving and taking on new challenges and I’m really enjoying the work I’m involved in at the moment.
Who he is:
I’m married to Lisa and we have two children, Daisy and William as well as 2 cats. We enjoy beach holidays in the sun or cultural visits abroad. I enjoy relaxing with the family and reading Sci-Fi. My ideal choice of car is anything that is environmentally friendly and my greatest fear is flying or heights generally!
