2018 Global Mobile Broadband Forum

5G, IoT, AR and AI – yes that’s right our team have been at the Global Mobile Broadband Forum this week.

The Future of Connectivity

This is Huawei’s 9th year hosting the event in partnership with GSMA and GTI and was located at the ExCel Centre in London. The event gathers the industry’s key decision makers, and influencers from around the world to help shape the future of Mobile Broadband. As well as a conference the event also exhibited companies with the various themes of 5G, the Internet of Things, AI, Cloud VR/AR, connected cars, and industrial robotics.

“A wonderful couple of days immersed in Huawei’s 5G ecosystem, meeting with their mobile customers, DCMS and their sponsored 5G traillists, AR/VR developers, and of a myriad of incredibly enthusiastic Huawei folk determined to make it all happen.  Truly a taste of tomorrow today.”

– Ric Riley, Unified Business Strategy Director, Virtua

Smart Rubbish and AR in the Business World

From smart rubbish bins to 3D classrooms the majority of tech on display all were relying on the next generation of mobile connectivity – 5G. 5G was the common message throughout the event, how it will change our every day life and making things smarter and more connected.

“Some of the more surprising highlights for me was how things like AR (Augmented Reality) will fit into businesses. One of the demos was on a construction site where engineers could look through the headsets and see what they were building – where to put the foundations, electric, water and more. This could be implemented in our industry, say for example our InBuild engineers being able to see where to put the antennas from the designs drawn up by our design teams.

I would have liked to have seen more of an emphasis on energy saving – that said, by having things like smart rubbish bins – that will only need emptying when full – will mean less unnecessary journeys by rubbish collectors and in turn less pollution.”
