From the rooftops to the streets of London, our engineers are currently working to bring vital broadband services to Londoners. We have joined forces with Community Fibre to help Survey, Design and Build their full fibre network to thousands of premises.
Community Fibre is an award-winning broadband provider, exclusively serving London’s residents and businesses. They have over 600,000 properties under wayleave agreement, with more than 200 of London’s biggest landlords across 23 boroughs. Their £400 million network expansion is aiming to reach one million households and businesses by 2023.
Virtua have been working with Community Fibre for the past 6 months and have already brought ultrafast fibre to nearly 4,000 premises in London.
What projects are Virtua working on?
Our largest current project with Community Fibre, Hackney Borough, consists of 55 estates spread across several miles in North London. By the end of 2021 we will have provided over 35,000 homes within the borough with Community Fibre’s superfast broadband service.
Beginning in Jan 2021, our teams are now putting the finishing touches to the Eastend Homes project. 4,000 premises within Eastend Homes can now enjoy a full fibre connection if they chose to employ Community Fibre’s service.
Over the next 3 years our FTTx teams will also be working at Catalyst Homes, a project consisting of over 20,000 homes.
What solutions are Virtua providing?
By utilising the PIA (Physical Infrastructure Access) of the Openreach Network, our teams are able to build a PON (Passive Optical Network) Network Solution.
We have numerous teams currently working on the above projects, undertaking all types of install activities both internally and externally – this includes Civils, Abseiling, MEWP works, Fibre Splicing, Trunking, Cabling and Testing.
Why install fibre?
Its more then just fast broadband, it’s a long lasting network. Once installed it requires low maintenance and no power, which is great for the broadband company and the end customer. We all know how vital the internet has been since the pandemic, with more and more people working remotely it has enabled life to somewhat continue. It is also great for the environment, In 2021 around 2 million people could be working mainly from home. This would mean 300 million less commuter trips and 360,000 tonnes less CO2 emissions every year!
Whats next?
Once our team have completed an install, if the resident wishes to have access to the fibre network, a Community Fibre engineer will then be deployed to make the final connection. Find out if your home has been connected by Community Fibre here.
