PROJECT

We have been working on a large scale decommissioning project with our customer since Nov 2020. The ongoing programme mainly involves the decommissioning of redundant microwave dishes.

SOLUTION

Our expert telecoms and rigging engineers have been working on various sites throughout the UK to remove the redundant equipment. As well as removing the dishes some sites require the re-cascade of the live ML’s (Microwave Links), making them redundant so we can remove the Dish and IDU from the cab.

We have already removed equipment from nearly 1,200 sites. Each decommission requires the microwave dishes to be removed from 2 sites – one dish from either end.

Once the site is decommissioned the equipment is mainly recycled and sold on to other countries or disposed of.

BENEFIT

The Microwave Links are removed once the contract on that site is completed, also they might find more competitively priced sites. New equipment upgrades on the site allows a far greater capacity and area for the mobile operator.

Our work with this customer is ongoing, we are aiming to achieve around 800 decoms a year – meaning around 1,900 sites to visit and work on.
