PROJECT

Our long standing customer asked us to help when one of their broadcast sites was damaged in a fire incident. The mast was located on the North York Moors and transmits both TV, Radio and DAB throughout the local area. The damage caused the mast to stop transmitting, so the works were a matter of urgency.

SOLUTION

To enable signal to be restored, our team were brought in to design, build and test a new temporary 62.5m tower.

As part of this project we worked alongside customer engineers to create a scope of works that would allow all services to be restored considering the tight timescales.

We installed the following services

  • UHF Antenna for Television transmit and receive
  • North Yorkshire Local DAB
  • National VHF (Radio1,2,3,4) Transmit and Receive
  • National DAB – SDL, D1 Services
  • Com DAB Service

Due to the size and location of the tower we utilised a helicopter to lift in parts of the tower and the new S1 Antenna into position.

Weather was our biggest problem we would never normally consider a December Heli-lift as inclement is always a problem. Despite 3 large scale storms the team persevered and managed to get the work completed on time and more importantly, safely.

Our skilled engineers managed to provide a main UHF (TV) antenna within 5 weeks. This involved the high mast team working in the day and our RF Engineers working thought the night to get this completed.

The tower will be in use for nearly a year whilst the new S2 is built. Our team is now working on building the brand new combiner system.

We started the project in November 2021 with the S1 completed and commissioned by the end of December, then finished the FM and DAB systems in February 2022.
